JEFFERSONVILLE — A pedestrian was struck and killed Friday night on East 10th Street in Jeffersonville.

The accident happened just before 9 p.m., according to City of Jeffersonville Communications Director Les Merkley.

The victim, a male in his 30s, was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound as he was crossing 10th Street from south to north near Howard Avenue.

Jeffersonville Police Department Detective Todd Hollis said the pedestrian died at University Hospital in Louisville. Hollis said the driver told police he did not see the pedestrian until the man was directly in front of his car. He braked but was unable to stop in time.

Another driver said he nearly struck the pedestrian just before the fatal collision.

Police do not anticipate filing charges. Hollis said there was no evidence of the driver being impaired. They are still waiting toxicology reports for the victim.

The names have not yet been released.
