FLOYD COUNTY —
Steve Bush is in a familiar spot.
Bush, who was elected to a third term as Floyd County Commissioner in November, was unanimously reappointed Wednesday by colleagues Chuck Freiberger and Mark Seabrook to also return as president of the county’s executive board. Bush has been president for five of his first nine years as commissioner.
Bush, a Republican, admits 2013 will have its share of challenges.
“We have a lot going on in the county,” he said following Wednesday’s brief commissioners’ meeting at the Pine View Government Center. “We want to work closely with the county council about future endeavors. We have a new parks department so that is at the top of the list. We want to make sure it keeps rolling.”
Bush said the new Floyd County Parks Department has already booked $5,000 in rental fees for the gym at Pine View. He expects much more revenue to come in from rental fees from the Southern Indiana Sports Center which belongs to the county parks.
Bush also said studying the Edwardsville Gateway project for possible future growth is a priority. He said putting in a new light at Tunnel Hill Road and Ind. 64 is a key component to growth in the county. Bush also said replacing the Bridge 23 on John Pectol Road is also a priority.
“I’m excited ... I think we [Freiberger and Seabrook] work well together,” Bush said.
The Floyd County Council will meet for the first time in 2013 at 6 p.m. Tuesday. For the first time Republicans will have the majority on the council and it’s expected that John Schellenberger will be elected president.
Funds approved
The commissioners approved a $4,000 request out of 911 funds to help pay to replace an antenna at the City-County Building. The antenna was recently struck by lightning and after insurance paid its share, the county was $4,000 short.
Meeting dates set
The Floyd County Commissioners will continue to meet at 6 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays of each month. Also, the commissioners approved several appointments Tuesday. Rick Fox will once again serve as commissioners’ attorney.
Property for sale
There are 57 properties that did not sell during the county’s recent tax sale. Those properties will soon go up for sale again at live and Internet auctions.
