Jason Derlein of Jeffersonville recently purchased a $100,000 winning Hoosier Lottery ticket ifrom the Clarksville Circle K at 419 Eastern Blvd.
Derlein was surprised to find his good fortune was not met with the enthusiasm from his wife after he called her to break the good news.
“She was mad. She said, ‘Stop messing around. I don’t have time for this, I’m at work,’” said Derlein in a press release from the Hoosier Lottery. “I sent her a picture of the ticket and she still didn’t believe me.”
As he left Hoosier Lottery Headquarters on Tuesday with his check, Derlein said with a smile, “I think she’ll change her tune now.”
Derlein and his wife have been hoping to move up to a bigger home. He said he plans to use his winnings to boost their budget on a new home and start a college fund for their almost one-year-old daughter.
“Our baby turns one next week,” said Derlein. ”Her party might get a little bigger now.”
Derlein is the first lucky player to claim a top prize on the new Winning In Spades scratch-off which launched Jan. 3.
