CLARKSVILLE —
Three people believed to be responsible for 21 area home burglaries were arrested by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office Wednesday at a Clarksville motel.
The arrests of Robert L Dentel, 41, Charles A. Bryant, 37, and Nicole R. Brewster, 24, resulted from the concerted work of multiple law enforcement agencies, the Clark County Sheriff’s Office reported.
The trio are believed to have targeted homes in the area, including residences in Borden, Pekin and St. Mathews in Louisville.
For the past week, lawmen conducted surveillance on America's Best Inn and Suites, located on Eastern Boulevard, where two of the three suspects were staying. A search warrant was obtained by the Clark County Sheriff’s detectives and later executed at the motel.
A vehicle at the motel, which had been described by witnesses of the previous burglaries and caught on video surveillence, helped authorities identify the suspects’ location.
A Clark County Sheriff’s detective was able to follow the vehicle, and watched it pull up to the rear of the motel, leading authorities to the suspects' room.
The detective prevented the vehicle from moving by blocking it in, and other detectives converged on the scene.
Two of the three suspects were detained and identified. While conducting their investigation, the third suspect emerged from the motel room because of curiosity, at which time he was detained.
Consent was given to search the van, which appeared to containe a many items that may have come from a recent burglary, according to the sheriff's department.
Through interviews with detectives, it was indicated that the property in the van was taken during burglaries committed in Louisville earlier in the day.
Some of the suspects indicated that what was in the van was merely half of the property they had stolen, the other half had already been sold or traded for drugs.
Maj. Jeff Topping of the Floyd County Sheriff’s Department was very instrumental in this investigation, Clark County Sheriff’s Office reported, Topping worked endless hours with Clark County detective over the course of the past week conducting surveillance and back ground checks.
As the investigation continues, there will be additional charges from both Kentucky and Indiana authorities.
