JEFFERSONVILLE —
Road closures for the Utica Pike sewer project were outlined at the Jeffersonville Board of Public Works meeting Wednesday.
Wastewater Superintendent Len Ashack said the closures, which are set to begin Thursday, will last about one month.
“[It] will serve the folks along Utica Pike,” Ashack said of the sewer project. “More than that, it also serves the folks in Oak Park.”
The sewer system along Utica Pike, and the required connection to residents living in Oak Park, will only apply to people are operating off of septic tanks and that are not currently connected to Oak Park sewer system,Ashack said.
Among the subdivisions affected are Wathan Heights, McBride Heights and Cherokee Terrace.
The extension of sewer service will not affect people already on the Oak Park sewer system. The Oak Park sewer project is contingent upon this Utica Pike sewer project begin completed first.
Road closures will begin on Utica Pike — which will be closed at the intersection of Allison Lane to the 3000 block of Utica Pike. The closure is set to be in effect until Friday, Dec. 7.
The remaining closures will take place in stages on Allison Lane, starting at Utica Pike and moving northwest toward Middle Road. The first closure will take place Dec. 10 to Dec. 19; the second closure will start Dec. 20 and run through Dec. 28; the third closure will be from Dec. 31 to Jan. 4; and the fourth stage of road closures will be Jan. 7 through Jan. 11.
Mayor Mike Moore offered his concerns on having both Allison Lane and Middle Road closed at the same time, as the project on Middle Road is nearing its completion.
“That whole section of the city, one of those two different roads is how they get around,” he said. “I’m good with this as long as Middle Road is open,” he said of the closures planned for Allison Lane.
City Engineer Andy Crouch said the anticipated completion date for the Middle Road project is Dec. 9.
The requested closures were unanimously approved.
Holiday Parade road closures
The board of public works also approved road closures for Saturday’s holiday parade and light up Jeffersonville event.
Closures were approved on Riverside Drive from Pearl to Locust streets and Spring Street from Market Street to Riverside Drive from 4 to 7 p.m. There will be no parking along those streets from 3 to 7.
Court Avenue from Spring to Wall streets, Federal Avenue from Spring to Wall streets and Wall Street from Seventh Street to Court Avenue will be closed from 4 to 7 p.m. with no parking from 3 to 7.
The parade route will also close Spring Street from Riverside Drive to Seventh Street with the intersections at Market, Pearl and Maple streets closed from 4:45 to 7 p.m.
All road closures were unanimously approved.
Martin Luther King Day
Stephanie Redd came to the board of public works meeting seeking a permit for a Martin Luther King Day parade to be held Jan. 21.
The route for the parade, which will be a march instead of a vehicle caravan, is planned to leave from City Hall building and travel to First Trinity Baptist Church in Jeffersonville. Redd said organizers will host a meeting Dec. 17 to determine a time for the beginning of the parade and to finalize the route.
