CHARLESTOWN —
In a short meeting of the Charlestown City Council on Monday night, the city set its salaries for elected officials next year.
Ordinance 2012-OR-17 was unanimously approved, with Councilman Jeff Aaron absent from the meeting, with no changes from the 2012 ordinance.
According to the ordinance, Mayor Bob Hall is paid $46,021 to act as the city’s executive; Clerk-Treasurer Donna Coomer will be paid $41,471 next year and each city council member will receive $6,467 for 2013.
Hall said the salary ordinance for city employees was passed and submitted to the Department of Local Government Finance before the Nov. 1 deadline. He said city employees received a $500 raise, per employee, for the year.
When asked if there was discussion on raising the elected officials pay Hall said, “there was not debate on increasing salaries. We kept them the same as 2012.”
A call placed to Councilman Scott McKechnie was not returned by press time.
Tax abatement approved
Corvac Composites LLC, received a 10 year, $1.2-million tax abatement from the council Monday night.
The company that produces airflow and water deflection systems for automobile manufacturers — mainly Toyota and Lexus — will received the abatement to purchase equipment.
Hall said the company is moving into a space formerly occupied by D.A. Inc., which makes protectors and covers, including dashboards for automotive manufacturers.
