Join in prayer Thursday
From noon to 12:30 p.m., The Salvation Army in conjunction with the city of New Albany will host the public outside the City-County Building for the brief time of music, scripture reading and prayer as the community, along with others throughout the United States at that time, unites in faith.
This year, folding chairs will be provided for the comfort of those attending. Participants in this year’s short program represent several sectors of the community. Dan Wiegleb, music director at Northside Christian Church, will provide background music and lead the singing of a hymn and “God Bless America,” while the Christian Academy of Indiana fifth grade choir will present “If My People.”
Mayor Jeff Gahan will welcome the crowd, and Maj. Steve Kiger, executive director of The Salvation Army in the region, will introduce community leaders, for whom Father Eric Augenstein of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church will lead a prayer. Christine Harbeson, executive director of Interfaith Community Council, will read the same scripture that will be read in communities at the same time throughout the country, and Pastor Tony Alstott of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church will deliver the closing prayer. At the end of the program, people will have the opportunity to gather in small groups on the grounds and pray. For more information, call 812-944-1018.
