Residents asked to conserve water

Due to the drought and continued hot weather, the Floyds Knobs Water Co. and Greenville Water Utility are asking customers to conserve water.

Customers are being asked to stop using water in nonessential areas such as watering lawns or gardens, washing cars and filling swimming pools.

If the water demand does not decrease, the utilities said they would be forced to initiate a mandatory order.



Fair booth space available

The 2012 “Made in America” Floyd County 4-H Fair is offering booth rental space for the fair, which will be July 9-14.

Space is available in the air-cooled Commercial Building and outdoors. The hours of operation are from 6 to 10 p.m. during fair week.

Church hosting ‘For Missions Sake’

Culbertson Baptist Church, 4007 Grant Line Road, New Albany, will sponsor a fundraiser, “For Missions Sake,” from 5 to 10 p.m. Sunday, July 1, in the Family Life Center of the church, 4007 Grant Line Road, New Albany.

The auction is from 5 to 7 p.m., food will be served from 5 to 9 p.m. and music by The Juice Box Heroes from 6 to 10 p.m.

Tickets are $5 in advance or $6 at the door with children under 5, free. The family maximum is $25. Proceeds raised will go to Adam and Beth Hunt for their mission assignment in Burma and to the Clean Water in Africa project. For more information, call 812-944-2738.



Church hosting spaghetti dinner

Advent Christian Church, 2129 Shelby St., New Albany, will sponsor its annual Penny Crusade spaghetti dinner, silent auction and bake goods auction at 5 p.m. July 7 at the church.

SOUTHERN INDIANA

Project aimed at reducing DUI

Indiana State Police will be joining forces with other members of the 6-State Trooper Project for a Driving Under the Influence enforcement initiative this weekend in an effort to reduce DUI related fatal and injury crashes.

This high-visibility enforcement effort will include the Indiana State Police, Kentucky State Police, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Pennsylvania State Police, Michigan State Police, and the West Virginia State Police.

Troopers in Indiana will focus on high DUI related crash areas and will utilize sobriety checkpoints and high-visibility saturation patrols in an effort to deter impaired driving. Last year, 102 DUI related fatal crashes killed 108 people on Hoosier highways.



Providence to celebrate JulyFest

The Providence Alumni Association will host its annual JulyFest celebration at Our Lady of Providence Jr.-Sr. High School, 707 Providence Way, Clarksville, on Saturday, July 7.

The annual celebration will begin with an All-Alumni Mass at 6:45 p.m. in the school chapel celebrated by Providence alumni, the Rev. Dan Atkins. At 7:30 p.m., the back parking lot will be open to admissions for the 21-and-over JulyFest with a $10 entrance fee.

The Louisville Crashers will begin performing at 8 p.m. Vendors include Irish Exit for beverages and Ph Dog’s Smoked Hogs’ barbecue, chicken sandwiches, and brats. Pioneer Raffle capital prize tickets with a $10,000 first prize will be sold for $20 and drawn that evening. The evening will conclude at midnight.



CLARK COUNTY

Scholarship applications are available

Applications are available for the Marvin Wright Conservation Scholarship awarded through the Community Foundation of Southern Indiana.

The $1,000 scholarship will be given to a student pursuing a career in a natural resources related field. Applicants must be resident of Clark County and a current graduating high school senior or student enrolled at a post secondary institution. Deadline for application is Tuesday, July 3.
