Event to discuss bicentennial
New Albany’s 200th birthday will be celebrated in 2013, and there will be many special activities in which you can be involved to celebrate this anniversary.
Join the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library staff in the Strassweg Auditorium at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, as Barbara Zoller, Michelle England and David Barksdale, members of the New Albany Bicentennial Commission, talk about the many events, projects, and books that are being planned. The program is free and open to the public.
Create a trendy mirror
The New Albany-Floyd County Public Library invites adult crafters to Create a Trendy Mirror — a free event from 6 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 17, in the library’s small meeting room.
Turn an expensive mirror into an impressive decorator accent with copies of a magazine. Ruth Menges will guide you in designing your own one of a kind mirror.

Library welcomes teens for Monster Mash
The New Albany-Floyd County Public Library and the New Albany YMCA are partnering to host a Halloween Monster Mash for tweens and teens. The event will be from 8 to 11 p.m., Oct. 19, at the New Albany YMCA. There will be a costume contest with prizes for Best Costume Based on a Book, Scariest Costume, Funniest Costume, Most Creative Costume, Best Group Costume, and Crowd Favorite. There will also be games, music, and arts and crafts activities.
Tweens and teens are asked to bring a canned or boxed good as a “treat” for HOPE Southern Indiana’s food bank. For more information, call the Reference Services Desk at 812-949-3523.
Pianist coming to IUS
The Music Department at Indiana University Southeast will present guest artist, pianist, Javier Cendejas, 3 p.m., Oct. 21, in the Richard K. Stem Concert Hall of the Paul W. Ogle Cultural and Community Center on the IU Southeast campus, 4201 Grant Line Road in New Albany. Admission is free.
Historical Society to meet Oct. 23
The Floyd County Historical Society will have its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 23, in the Elsa Strassweg Auditorium of the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library.
Randy Moser will present a program entitled “100 Years Ago Today.” The meeting is free and open to the public.
St. Mary’s yard sale Oct. 19-20
St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 8th and Spring streets, New Albany, will host a yard and bake sale, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday and Saturday, Oct. 19-20, in the parish school cafeteria.
The sale will include thousands of items, house wares, furniture, clothing, decorative items, toys, and much more. There will be homemade goodies from some of the best bakers in town. For sale coffee and donuts both days, hot dogs and chili on Saturday.

Walk to combat addiction coming up
Grassroots Prevention Coalition of Clark County is sponsoring Tragedy to Triumph: Overcoming Addiction walk from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 20 at Perrin Park, Perrin Lane, Jeffersonville.
All proceeds from the 3.1 mile walk/run will create scholarships for Clark County youth. For more information call 812-288-6451.
Radio personality to speak
Radio personality Les Naiman will speak on “America: Past, Present, Future,” from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 19, at the Jeffersonville Elks Club, 1820 Charlestown-Jeffersonville Pike, Jeffersonville.
This is a free event and door prizes will be awarded. The Elks Club will have food and drink available for purchase.
Clarksville
Bilingual Story Hour coming to library
Bilingual Story Hour will be from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 27, at the Clarksville Branch Library, 1312 Eastern Blvd., Clarksville.
Families are invited to participate in this bilingual story hour. Students from the Jeffersonville High School’s ESL program will be reading the stories. This story hour is meant to reinforce pre-reading skill concepts to young children. Registration is required. Call 812-285-5640 for more details or to register.
‘Frankenstein’ opening for three-day run
The Drama Studio, St. Genesius Theatre, 128 E Bell Ave., Clarksville, will present “Frankenstein” By Victor Gialanella, from the novel by Mary Shelley, directed by John Campbell Finnegan.
Performance dates are Oct. 25, 26 and 27, at 7:30 p.m. and Oct. 28, at 2 p.m. Tickets are $14 for adults and seniors and $10 for students and children. Group Rates and High School Study Guides available for Literature Classes.
