The Clark County Sheriff’s Department handed over the case of the 18-month-old Otisco child fatality to the Clark County Prosecutor’s Office Thursday morning.
Sheriff’s investigators released the case to prosecutors without making an arrest or issuing any preliminary charges.
Aiden Maples was killed in front of his home in the 1100 block of Leon Prall Road about 6 p.m. Oct. 10. Clark County Coroner Edwin “Huck” Coots said last week that Maples’ injuries were consistent with being struck by a vehicle.
Investigators believe they have identified the female driver of the vehicle they believe struck the child. Her name has not been released.
Sheriff’s officials previously remarked that Maples was outside his home playing with other children at the time of his death. A vehicle, driven by the relative, pulled up to home at one point in the evening to pick up her children, who Maples’ mother was baby-sitting. The woman then left the residence and returned about 8 p.m.
Deputies were still on the scene when the woman returned to the home and impounded the vehicle for processing. Investigators said last week that the woman returned to the home at the request of the child’s mother. The mother was inside the home at the time of her child’s death, and stated to deputies that she did not know how her young son was killed.
The driver was questioned by detectives last week. Detectives said the woman was very cooperative during questioning.
