Brain injury group to meet
The July meeting of the Southern Indiana Traumatic Brain Injury Foundation will be at 7 p.m. July 21 in the theater at Southern Indiana Rehab Hospital, 3401 Blackiston Blvd., New Albany.

Hosparus offers volunteer training
Hosparus Southern Indiana needs volunteers who live in Clark, Crawford, Floyd, Harrison, Scott and Washington counties. Hosparus will offer free volunteer training, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 30 at its New Albany office, 624 E. Market St. Lunch is included.

Volunteers help with administrative duties, bereavement care, patient and family support, thrift shop coverage, respite and development/fundraising. Hosparus carefully selects volunteers and provides them with comprehensive training specially designed to meet the needs of patients and families. Hosparus volunteers must have available transportation and complete training and an application process.
NEW ALBANY
Weekend events set for riverfront
Two free concerts are on tap at the New Albany Riverfront Amphitheater this weekend.
On Friday, the Bobby Falk Group — contemporary jazz and soul — will perform from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. They’ll perform originals and cover favorites from pop and soul.
From 7 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, the Jamey Aebersold Jazz Quartet will perform for free.
Church hosting neighborhood picnic
DePauw Methodist Church, across from New Albany High School at 925 Vincennes St., New Albany, will host a free neighborhood picnic, 4 to 6 p.m., July 30, at the church.
There will be free food, entertainment, games and free school supplies for children who attend. The only price of admission is the desire to come join the fun.

Tea Party to meet next week
The Clark County Tea Party invites the public to the group’s next meeting at 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. July 21 at the Silver Creek Middle School, 495 N. Indiana Ave., Sellersburg.
The speaker will be Les Naiman, former host of the “Voice of Liberty” radio show.
Livestock auction is Friday
Businesses and individuals are invited to participate in the “Learn By Doing” 4-H Program by supporting the 2011 4-H Livestock Auction, which begins at 6:30 p.m. Friday in the indoor arena at the Clark County 4-H fairgrounds.
At the auction, exhibited beef, sheep, swine, goats, rabbits and poultry are offered for sale to businesses and individuals at the close of the week-long Clark County 4-H Fair. Buyers may have their purchase sent to the locker plant of their choice or sold at the preauction established base bid price to a local marketing or packing firm. Free trucking is provided.
Buyers are invited to the preauction social from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m.. in the arena.

Author to talk at library
Author David Domine, whose most recent book, “111 Fabulous Food Finds,” showcases Kentucky and the best places to enjoy the best bites in the Bluegrass.
He will talk about it and more from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Jeffersonville Township Public Library, 211 E. Court Ave.
Domine is on the faculty at Bellarmine University, in the department of foreign languages and international studies. Domine is the author of several books, including “Ghosts of Old Louisville: True Stories of Hauntings in America’s Largest Victorian Neighborhood” and “Adventures in New Kentucky Cooking with the Bluegrass Peasant.” He also writes a regular food column for Kentucky Monthly magazine.

Gospel and bluegrass on display
Kingsfield Children’s Home, 635 W. Utica St., Sellersburg, will sponsor Gospel and Bluegrass on the Lawn from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday.
The free event will include food for sale as a fundraiser for a summer vacation for the kids. The day will include games and entertainment by Preston Highway String Band. Patrons are encouraged to bring a lawn chair.
