Cookout to help JA

Employees of SR Wood Inc. of Clarksville will be hosting a cookout from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 30, at Ace Hardware, 1905 Charlestown Road, New Albany.

Hot dogs, hamburgers, bratwurst, chips, and soft drinks will be sold, with proceeds donated to Junior Achievement of Kentuckiana.

Junior Achievement inspires and prepares young people to succeed in a global economy.



Providence to celebrate JulyFest

The Providence Alumni Association will host its annual JulyFest celebration at Our Lady of Providence Jr.-Sr. High School, 707 Providence Way, Clarksville, on Saturday, July 7.

The annual celebration will begin with an All-Alumni Mass at 6:45 p.m. in the school chapel celebrated by Providence alumni, the Rev. Dan Atkins. At 7:30 p.m., the back parking lot will be open to admissions for the 21-and-over JulyFest with a $10 entrance fee. The Louisville Crashers will begin performing at 8 p.m. Vendors include Irish Exit for beverages and Ph Dog’s Smoked Hogs’ barbecue, chicken sandwiches, and brats. Pioneer Raffle capital prize tickets with a $10,000 first prize will be sold for $20 and drawn that evening. The evening will conclude at midnight.





JEFFERSONVILLE

Walking tour set for Friday

A downtown Jeffersonville Walking Tour will start at 6 p.m. Friday, June 29, rain or shine.

Those interested should meet at the northwest corner of Court and Locust streets, in front of the public library, for a walking tour of Locust Street. County Historian Jeanne Burke will lead the tour, sharing anecdotes about the neighborhood’s rich history and architectural and historical information about the buildings, including some that have been lost through the years. The tour will conclude in time for participants to return to Warder Park to enjoy a Concert in the Park at 7:30 p.m. with the Early Autumn Big Band playing big band swing music.

This is the second in a series of walking/historical tours taking place this summer and autumn. The other tours are tentatively planned for July 27, Aug. 24, Sept. 28 and Oct. 26.

CLARK COUNTY

Scholarship applications are available

Applications are available for the Marvin Wright Conservation Scholarship awarded through the Community Foundation of Southern Indiana.

The $1,000 scholarship will be given to a student pursuing a career in a natural resources related field. Applicants must be a resident of Clark County and a current graduating high school senior or student enrolled at a post secondary institution. Deadline for application is July 3.

Rose Island Playhouse holding auditions

Rose Island Playhouse Community Theatre will hold auditions for Pat Cook’s hilarious comedy “Hit the Road, Jack,” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., July 7,  at the Charlestown Arts & Enrichment Center, 999 Water St., Charlestown.

The cast consists of six women ages 20 to 60 and five men ages 20 to 60. The auditions will be cold readings.
