Clark bridge to close June 5

The Clark Memorial Bridge will be closed between 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. June 5. The bridge is a part of the route of the Southern Indiana Triathlon.



Road gets renamed

Clark County’s Planning Zoning and Building Commission has renamed Engle Road in Wood Township to Scottsville Road.

Previously, the name changed from Scottsville Road into Engle Road at Head Road, near Scottsville Lake.

Scottsville Road now stretches from St. John Road to Paoli Pike.



CLARKSVILLE

Falls offering free outdoor activities

The Falls of the Ohio State Park, 201 W. Riverside Drive, Clarksville, will sponsor free outdoor activities, open to all ages, June 4. They include:

• 1 p.m. —  Fly fishing fundamentals, casting demo and practice

• 2 p.m. — Casting contest, with rods and reels as prize

• 1-3 p.m. — Fish art prints, make one to take home

Indiana’s free fishing weekend is June 4 to 5. Fish anywhere in Indiana, including the Ohio River, without purchasing a license.

Free fishing guides, fish identification booklets and posters are available at the Interpretive Center.



JEFFERSONVILLE

JHS choral concert is tonight

At 7 p.m. today, Jeffersonville High School’s Spring Choral Concert, featuring all the choirs, will be in the school’s auditorium.

The Chamber Choir will sing a variety of choral music including their ISSMA gold medal performance pieces and will feature Bobby Deason at the piano with a rousing gospel piece composed by a local gospel artist, Roosevelt Escalante.

The finale will be the traditional “Battle Hymn of the Republic,” which will include all 150 choral students and choir alumni from the audience.

The cost is $3 at the door.

 

NEW ALBANY

State Farm hosting Health Fair

Theresa Lamb, owner of State Farm Insurance along State Street in New Albany, is hosting a health fair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. today.

There will be free blood pressure checks and healthy snacks.



Next ‘friends’ book sale set

The Friends of the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library will host their annual Beach Book Sale in the Annex Building, in the parking lot at the corner of Spring Street and Scribner Drive, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 4.

All paperbacks in mystery and fiction will sell for just a quarter. Regular prices are $1 for hardbacks, videos and DVDs; 50 cents for paperbacks and CDs; 25 cents for cassette tapes; 10 cents for magazines; and 5 cents for vinyl records. Children’s books are available at prices of $1 or less.

The book sale has received a special estate donation of fantasy books with authors like Margaret Weiss, Anne McCaffrey, Raymond Feist, Tracy Hickman, Piers Anthony, Terry Brooks and David Eddings.

Open gym event coming up

Speed Memorial Church Christian Education presents Open Gym/VBS Scavenger Hunt, 6 to 8 p.m. June 1 in the church fellowship hall. This event is open to the public. Spend time with family and friends in a cool and inviting environment.

• Basketball, cornhole and other games — celebrate vacation Bible school in June!

• Light supper and beverages provided.

• Supervision provided, parents are welcome to stay and participate with the children.

• Activities for the younger children.

CHARLESTOWN

Senior Citizens, Inc. dinner event June 2

Charlestown Senior Citizen Inc.’s semi-annual evening dinner meeting will be from 6 to 8 p.m. June 2 at the Arts and Enrichment Center, 999 Water St., Charlestown.

Meal will be provided by the Charlestown Parks and Recreation, ham, roast beef, vegetables, salad and dessert.

Speaker will be Lindon Dodd, an Otisco resident who is a freelance writer for the News and Tribune. He will also have his published book at the meeting and will autograph your copy.
