Retired fed employees to meet

National Association of Retired Federal Employees Chapter 381 and New Albany Chapter 1771 will have a special combined meeting at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14, at the Jeffersonville Public Library, 211 E. Court Ave., Jeffersonville.

Breakfast with the Raptors

Falls of the Ohio State Park announces the first of three opportunities to enjoy breakfast and a live raptor program provided by the Hardy Lake Raptor Rehab Center.

From 8 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, the public can have breakfast in the company of several owls in the Interpretive Center lobby. For $20 for adults and $15 for children, patrons can enjoy a country breakfast by Chardeau’s Classic Catering, followed by a program by Leslie Grow.

This program is by reservation only with a limit of 48, register at: http://breakfastraptors.eventbrite.com/

Proceeds will benefit the Hardy Lake Raptor Rehab Center and the Falls of the Ohio State Park. The next breakfast is Nov. 10, with hawks.



GEORGETOWN

Optimists giving away school clothing

Georgetown Optimist Club will be hosting a free school clothes giveaway from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, at Optimist Club, located next to the Georgetown Drive-in.

Participants need to show verification of school enrollment. Anyone who has gently used clothes to donate can drop them off Friday night from 6 to 8 p.m. Also needed are bath towels and wash clothes for domestic abuse center. If you would like to volunteer, call 812-951-3142.



NEW ALBANY

Head start seeks volunteers

Floyd County Head Start in New Albany has volunteer positions at the Corydon Pike center, located at 1902 Corydon Pike, and Children’s Academy — Early Learning Center, located at 1111 Pearl St.. School is in session Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Volunteers are needed to read, play games and assist teachers with activities for children ages 3-5.

Learn more about disabled caregiving

A workshop intended for the disabled, the aging and their caregivers, sponsored by Hope Southern Indiana, will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, at Brown-Starks Neighborhood Place, corner of Bono and Graybrook Road, New Albany.

Steamboat Toastmasters Club Humorous Speech Contest will be from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17, at 1638 Production Road, Jeffersonville.



Church hosting women’s day events

A women’s brunch will be held at 10  a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1201 Thomas V. Bryant Dr., Jeffersonville. Guest speaker will be the Rev. Tonya Burris-Mallory, pastor of Allen Chapel AME Church, Terre Haute. Tickets are $7.

A morning worship will begin at 10:45 at the church.
