JEFFERSONVILLE —
Plans are in the works to establish a new barbecue restaurant in the Sam Cox Building at 254 E. Spring St. in Jeffersonville.
Local resident Tim Schmitt is hoping to open Big River Barbecue in the building, serving barbecue, brisket and burgers. Wednesday morning, Jeffersonville’s Board of Public Works and Safety approved the addition of an exhaust fan to the building’s exterior as well as sidewalk dining plans. The approval was needed because the building is located within the historic district.
Don’t put on your bib yet, the business isn’t going to open until August, said Schmitt.
WALK FOR THE BLIND
The board approved a police escort for a walk by the Ohio Valley Blind Association. The event — which will go from KingFish down Riverside Drive, then up Spring Street to Warder Park — is set for 9 a.m. Sept. 22.
TRUCK TRAFFIC ON ALLISON LANE
Resident Mike Czape asked the board to consider measures that would reduce truck traffic on Allison Lane. Czape said the trucks are heading toward the Port of Indiana and most are too large to correctly take corners in the area.
Street commissioner David Hosea said there’s an 8-ton limit on the road and police could ticket truckers going through the area. Further, he said, truck route signage leading to the port could be used. The board took no action on the suggestions.
STREET CLOSURE FOR RIVERSTAGE
The board approved the closure of Riverside Drive from Spring and Pearl streets between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m., May 26. The closure is being made related to RiverStage’s opening night. A free concert by the Louisville Crashers is planned. The stage is docked on the Ohio River just south of the Spring Street and Riverside Drive intersection.
