Youth Philanthropy Council accepting grant proposals

> SOUTHERN INDIANA — Programs and projects that benefit youth in Clark and Floyd counties can apply for funding through the Community Foundation’s Youth Philanthropy Council.

Each year, the Youth Philanthropy Council, a program of the Community Foundation of Southern Indiana, accepts grant applications for Clark and Floyd counties.

Projects applying for funding must have youth involved in the planning or implementation, preferably both. Clark and Floyd county projects can apply for up to $500 each, according to a news release. The deadline for applications is 4 p.m. Feb. 8. Projects that have received funding will be announced at the Gold Acorn Youth Volunteer Recognition Event in the spring.

Applications are available through the Community Foundation’s Web site, cfsouthernindiana.com, by clicking on Youth Philanthropy Councils.

Nonprofits, schools and religious organizations are invited to partner with young people to apply for the grants to support their programs and projects. Projects should meet one of the following objectives: promote healthy development and a safe environment, provide opportunities to benefit the community, develop the skills of young people or develop positive relationships between youth and adults. Organizations which have received funding from a Youth Philanthropy Council previously should expend all of their previous funds and complete their final report before applying for another grant.

The Youth Philanthropy Council is comprised of teenagers from Clark and Floyd counties. Adult advisers work with the teens to give them training in charity work and the youth are in charge of grant cycles in which they make award decisions. The council also sponsors the annual Gold Acorn recognition luncheon, which honors outstanding teen volunteers.
