FLOYD COUNTY —
Three suspects in a Floyds Knobs home burglary were taken into custody after a neighbor alerted officers of two men carrying a 70-inch television though a field near her home Monday morning.
Paul M. Devore, 20, and Ashley M. Roach, 20, both of New Albany, and Joshua A. Huey, 20, of Georgetown, are believed by the Floyd County Sheriff’s Department to have been involved in two burglaries that took place hours apart at the same home in a small gated community in the 6400 block of Loi Road.
Floyd County Sheriff’s Department Maj. Jeff Topping said Devore and Roach are known by the home occupants, and that one the residents had told Devore days before the burglary that the family would be out of town.
Roach is believed to have driven Devore and Huey near the victims’ home about 3:45 a.m. so they could commit the break-in. Topping said a security wall surrounds the burglarized home and a few others in the immediate area, and the men had to scale the wall to gain access. He said a glass door was busted as the men entered the home and stole four firearms, jewelry, money, designer shoes, video game systems and video games.
The men are believed to have taken the property back to Devore’s home immediately after the burglary.
Topping said the trio reconvened and returned to the burglarized home about 6:30 a.m. and stole a 70-inch television
The robberies went unnoticed until a resident of Loi Road saw Devore and Huey carrying the television through an open filed. Topping said the woman yelled at the men, who responded by dropping the TV and running away. Officers responded to the area and were able to follow the suspects’ footprints from the abandoned TV to the broken-in home.
Officers also located two firearms taken from the home while searching for Devore and Huey.
Topping said a .357-caliber Ruger Magnum was found near the woman’s home who saw the men carrying the television. A second firearm, a .44-caliber Smith and Wesson, was found tucked under the cushion of outdoor furniture on the patio at nearby home where the men are believed to have stopped to wait for Roach to pick them up. Two pocket knifes were also found near the gun, Topping said. He said it appeared the men stashed the weapons and fled the patio after seeing officers in the area.
As officers searched for Devore and Huey, they noticed a vehicle driven by Roach driving up and down Loi Drive. The vehicle was stopped and Roach gave officers consent to search her vehicle. Roach was allowed to leave the area after the vehicle was searched.
Topping said Roach is believed to have been looking for Devore and Huey to take them and the stolen TV from the area.
During the investigation, a resident of nearby Wagner Drive contacted authorities of two suspicious men on the property. Officers responded, and Devore and Huey were located walking on Wagner Drive and taken into custody.
During a search of Devore’s home located on Paoli Pike officers located much of the stolen property, including a .38 caliber pistol.
Devore and Huey were preliminarily charged with burglary and theft, and Roach was preliminarily charged with burglary.
All of the charges issued were class C felonies.
Court records had not been updated as or press time with the dates of the three suspects’ initial court hearings.
