FLOYDS KNOBS —
The public is invited to a reception at Floyd Central High School on Sunday from 6:30 to 8 p.m., to meet and welcome the two new directors who will be assuming the positions of directors of Theatre Arts at Floyd Central and New Albany High Schools.
Robbie Steiner will be assuming the theater position at Floyd Central filling the vacancy left by the retirement of veteran theater educator Chris Bundy in May. Steiner graduated from Indiana University with a degree in theatre arts last year and served as a student teacher under Bundy last year. He has also worked closely with the program this year in addition to teaching English and credit recovery at FCHS during this school year.
He is a graduate of Providence High School where he was an active member of the theater program and has worked with several theatrical organizations throughout the region.
“I have always been very impressed with Mr. Steiner’s creativity and his genuine interest in kids and the desire to help them reach their potentials,” Bundy said in a press release. “I feel sure that he is the perfect choice to assume theatrical responsibilities at [Floyd Central] and I couldn’t be more pleased with the school board’s decision to hire this fine young man.”
John Zisa will be assuming theater duties at New Albany High School with the retirement of longtime director, David Longest. Zisa has brings five years experience to the position, having directed the theater and vocal music program at Hackensack High School in New Jersey. He is an accomplished singer/songwriter and recording artist as well as having performed extensively in regional theater. Zisa also enjoyed the experience of being a semifinalist on Season 4 of “American Idol.”
“Mr. Zisa was selected from among a very talented pool of applicants and I feel that the young, fresh ideas that he will bring to the program will serve him well at New Albany and I know he will be a great success as he assumes the duties of director of Theatre Arts,” Longest said.
The reception will be in the outer theater lobby area of Floyd Central, with refreshments being served. Those attending should enter the school at the performing arts entrance of the school.
