CLARKSVILLE —
An off-duty police officer was injured Wednesday afternoon when the vehicle he was driving ran off the side of a Clarksville roadway and struck a utility pole.
Clarksville Police Department Chief Mark Palmer said a construction crew working in the area of Blackiston Mill Road and Potters Lane has hired off-duty police officers from Kentucky to work as flaggers in their construction zone. The accident happened when one of the men was leaving the work site.
Palmer said it was not clear immediately following the accident what caused the man to drive off the road. He was transported to University Hospital in Louisville with a head laceration and other possible injuries.
Palmer said he was uncertain how many residents were left without power following the accident, but said that typically when utility poles are snapped along that stretch of Blackiston Mill, it effects customers on the right-hand side of the thoroughfare, onto Altawood and neighboring streets.
