NEW ALBANY —
New Albany police are asking the public to help identify a man believed to have robbed the same Circle K gas station on two occasions in recent weeks.
The Circle K, 602 W. Main St. in New Albany, was robbed Oct. 4 and Nov. 17. Police believe the suspect, who used a firearm during the robberies, acted alone on both incidents.
Maj. Keith Whitlow with NAPD said the fact that the suspect was wearing identical clothing during each of the robberies is leading investigators to believe the same man is the suspect in both cases. He added that investigators are keeping their investigation open to the possibility, however, that the robberies may have been committed by two different people.
Whitlow said each of the robberies took place about 3:30 a.m. and that an undisclosed amount of money was handed over to the suspect on both occasions. He also said the same clerk was working during both armed robberies.
The suspect is described as a black man, about 5 feet 7 inches tall to 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing between 155 and 165 pounds. In each of the robberies, the robber was described wearing a black-hooded sweatshirt with an unknown logo on the front.
The sweatshirt also has a red in color emblem on the left sleeve near the upper forearm.
During the second robbery, the suspect appears to be wearing a pink wig in an effort to hide his identity.
Police are asking anyone with information of the suspect or the robberies to contact NAPD Detective Carrie East at 812-948-5317.
Those wishing to remain anonymous can call the NAPD Crime Line at 948-NAPD (6273).
