NEW ALBANY —
A New Albany woman has been charged in connection to six area break-ins, according to Floyd County court records.
Jessica I. Bridges, 25, of 1711 Lopp Ave., is believed by New Albany police to have been storing stolen property in the basement of her home that was taken from area homes during burglaries committed by her former boyfriend Charles Hall between August and November. Police say Hall, 37, of New Albany, is responsible for 40 separate break-ins in New Albany, Clarksville and Jeffersonville.
Following Hall’s Nov. 9 arrest, he told New Albany Police Department investigators that some of the property he had stolen from area homes was still at Bridges’ residence.
On Nov. 21, investigators spoke with Bridges at her home where she admitted that there was property, which she knew to be stolen, in the basement of her home that Hall had brought to the residence. Bridges took the investigators to the basement and pointed out which items she believed to have been stolen. The property included a Trinity High School 2011 football state champion ring, several jewelry boxes, watches, a laptop computer, a camera and loose costume jewelry.
Investigators spoke with Bridges again Nov. 26, at which time she told the investigators that Hall had told her several weeks before that the stolen property in the home was “hot,” and that she needed to get rid of the items.
She continued to tell investigators, according to the probable cause affidavit, that she had previously contacted Louisville Metro Police Department, as she knew some of the property came from Louisville, but she could never speak with anyone. Investigators asked Bridges why she didn’t tell them of the stolen property when police were in her home Nov. 9 looking for Hall. She told the investigators she tried, but kept getting cut off, according the affidavit.
Bridges was arrested Monday and has since been charged in Floyd County Superior Court No. 1 with six counts theft — receiving stolen property, all class D felonies.
If found guilty of the charges, Bridges faces a maximum of 18 years in the Indiana Department of Correction.
