CHARLESTOWN —
Two students were treated for minor injuries and a driver has been admitted to the University of Louisville Hospital following an accident involving a school bus in Charlestown Wednesday.
The accident happened Wednesday morning on Ind. 62, near Bethany Road at 7:30 a.m., according to a press release from the Charlestown Police Department. The bus, No. 126, was transporting approximately 25 Charlestown and New Washington high school students to the Prosser School of Technology in New Albany. It was either stopped or coming to a stop at a railroad crossing when the driver noticed a pickup truck quickly approaching. The bus driver attempted to accelerate to avoid a bigger impact. The driver of the truck, 33-year-old Frank “Shane” Davidson, of Charlestown, rear-ended the bus.
At least five students reported minor injuries, but only two were transported to a local hospital. The other three were released to their parents.
The driver of the truck had to be extricated by the Charlestown Fire Department and was airlifted to University of Louisville Hospital, where he is in stable condition.
The investigation is on-going as police wait for toxicology results.
