GEORGETOWN —
After 21 years in Corydon establishing a tradition and reputation, Magdalena’s Restaurant has relocated to Georgetown.
The restaurant, located in Copperfield Commons, 1116 Copperfield Drive, along Ind. 64, has been open for about a month.
“We have exceeded expectations,” said Jenny Rog, Magdalena’s original owner who now serves as the restaurant’s business development executive. “This was a very difficult move but we believe this is where God has led us.”
Magdalena’s closed in Corydon in February. Rog said the move was a business decision.
“We were successful, but the economy took a toll on us in the last three years,” she said.
So the decision was made to move the restaurant. Karen Hall, who has worked at Magdalena’s for 19 years, is the owner of the Georgetown location, but Rog is still heavily involved in the business and daily operations.
“I am president of our corporation. I do all the training, hiring and promotions,” she said. “We are all hands-on. I still do shifts. I think being hands-on is a key part of our success.”
Magdalena’s is known for its pastas, seafood and steaks and has more than 30 entrees to choose from in a casual dining setting.
“Although our location has changed, our mission remains the same — to serve appealing and delicious food by a friendly and professional team in a clean and relaxing ambiance,” Hall said in a press release.
Realtor Mike Kopp has provided long-range planning and concept development assistance to Rog and her husband Peter. John Beams, with the West Floyd East Harrison Community Association, also assisted with their relocation process.
“We checked a lot of different locations before we picked this one,” Rog said. “Every day has been like a reunion. Customers have been coming in and telling us how much they missed us during the move. They have missed our dishes and our relationship.”
Beam introduced the Rogs and Hall to Roger and Rochelle Harbison, developers of Copperfield Commons. Rog said she knew right away that was the perfect location to open Magdalena’s.
“Having considered multiple locations the development of Copperfield Commons captures the essence of Magdalena’s new image,” she said. “It is apparent the Harbisons created a destination center for Georgetown and their attention to detail and quality is evident.”
The restaurant seats 104 and employs 35 people, Rog said.
