Rotary seeks young professionals for trip

Group is looking for people interested in month-long exchange in Germany

> SOUTHERN INDIANA — Rotary clubs the world over have worked toward advancing understanding, goodwill and peace since Rotary’s beginning in 1905. Local clubs are encouraging young business people to join in these efforts by taking part in a month-long Group Study Exchange in Germany.

Applications are being accepted by all clubs in Rotary District 6580, which includes nearly all of Southern Indiana. The exchange is open to non-Rotarians only.

The outbound team to Germany will consist of four non-Rotarians and one Rotarian. The team will visit Rotary District 1950 in one of the most beautiful parts of Germany. Cities in District 1950 include Erfurt and Weimer which were formerly in East Germany and Ansbach, Bamberg and the ancient walled city of Rothenburg ob der Tauber which were in West Germany. The district has a varied economy which includes farming, industry and tourism.

The exchange is designed to develop professional and leadership skills and to better prepare participants to address the global needs of their own communities when they return. It’s a month-long program in which participants travel through the district, engage in professional exchanges, stay with host families and tour business and cultural facilities they would never see as a tourist. All costs other than personal expenses are covered by Rotary. Tentative dates for the trip are May 10 to June 7.

Applicants must be currently employed and be between the ages of 25 and 40. Rotarians, children and grandchildren of Rotarians may not apply. Applicants must attend a retreat at Bradford Woods on Oct. 20-21 and applications must be received no later than Oct. 1.
