FLOYD COUNTY —
The Floyd County Commissioners issued a declaration of fire emergency Tuesday, concerning open burning and fireworks, that can be renewed every seven days due to a significant fire risk in the county.
The declaration will give officials more authority to pursue charges against individuals who defy the order.
Temperatures are predicted to hit or top 100 degrees later this week as the first major heat wave of the summer is expected to occupy the Ohio Valley.
The National Weather Service in Louisville calls for a highs of 100 or 101 Thursday through Sunday with little to no rain chance.
