Holiday classic coming to Culbertson West

Stage production of ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ coming in December; auditions set

NEW ALBANY — A holiday classic is coming to New Albany’s Culbertson West.

A stage production of “It’s a Wonderful Life” will transform the historic home into a dinner theater Dec. 13-16.

Bob Trinkle, of Bob Trinkle Productions, is producing the show, which recently completed a five-year run at French Lick Springs Hotel. He said he is excited to bring live theater to Culbertson West.

“I think it will be great for the community,” Trinkle said. “It’s something special and different. I hope it draws well ... I would like to do it every year.”

Tickets for the dinner and show are $42 for adults and $35 for children younger than 12. There are also group rates for families or businesses who want to celebrate the holidays together by attending the show.

“It’s a good show and the food there is just wonderful,” Trinkle said. “We keep it pretty true to the movie.”

Trinkle said the show will have a cast of 24. He will hold auditions at 2 p.m. Sept. 16 at Culbertson West, 904 E. Main St. in New Albany. Those auditioning can expect to read from the script and sing 16 bars.

Not only has Trinkle produced the show for French Lick, but also The Seelbach in Louisville. He hopes it receives the same support as it did at those two venues.

“We played to sold out audiences regularly,” he said. “I think there is room in this market for another holiday dinner show.”

The live show is based on the 1946 classic film which starred Jimmy Stewart.

“It is the quintessential holiday classic,” Trinkle said. “Families have gathered around their TV for years watching the movie.”

Steve Goodman, co-owner of Culbertson West, said Trinkle has produced murder mysteries for his facility in the past and he is excited to have a live show in December.

“We’ve worked with Bob before and there seems to be a real demand for dinner theater,” Goodman said. “We have had many people approach us, so we decided to block out that week in December.”

Goodman said the dinner/show would be ideal for small businesses or offices who want to do something with their employees for the holidays, without it being too expensive.

“I think it’s nice for the community,” he said. “People don’t have to cross the bridge to enjoy a special evening.”
