City holding budget workshop
The Jeffersonville City Council will hold a public workshop meeting to discuss the city’s 2013 budget at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20.
The meeting will be in the second-floor executive conference room at Jeffersonville City Hall, located at 500 Quartermaster Court.
Homecoming rally set for Thursday
The city of Jeffersonville will hold a homecoming rally for the Jeffersonville High School Football team at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, at RiverStage at the corner of Riverside Drive and Spring Street.
The JHS Band, cheer and dance teams will perform, the football team will be recognized by Mayor Mike Moore and the new “Footloose” movie will be shown at dark. Admission is free and concessions will be available.
City honoring retiring Rev. Motley
Jeffersonville Mayor Mike Moore has proclaimed Friday, Sept. 21, the Rev. D.L. Motley day in recognition of his retirement after 40 years of service and dedicated leadership to the people of Jeffersonville and Gilt Edge Baptist Church.
Motley will celebrate his retirement and birthday with his friends, family and congregation at 6 p.m. Friday, at Gilt Edge Baptist Church, 1713 Green St., Jeffersonville.
K of C ladies’ card party on tap
Knights of Columbus Council 1324 Ladies Auxiliary, annual card party will begin at 7 p.m. today, Sept. 19 at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 225 E. Market St., Jeffersonville.

Pet Lover’s Gala set for Saturday
The Floyd County Animal Rescue League will hold its sixth-annual Pet Lover’s Gala in the Showroom of Horseshoe Casino & Hotel Conference Center at 6 p.m. Sept. 22.
This year’s Flashback to the ’80s-themed event will include a buffet dinner catered by Horseshoe [includes vegetarian option], disc jockey, games, door prizes and a silent auction.
All are welcome to join the Rescue League as they raise money to help needy and homeless pets. Ticket prices are $35 each or $300 for a table of 10. A portion of the ticket price is tax deductible. Historical Society to meet
The Floyd County Historical Society will hold its September meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, in the Elsa Strassweg Auditorium of the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library.
The program titled “Silver Street United Methodist Church — 100 Years!” will be presented by members of Silver Street United Methodist Church. The meeting is free and open to the public.

LSI holding FOCUS Day
Leadership Southern Indiana will host FOCUS on Southern Indiana from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 24.
Participants will leave from Purdue Technology Center and travel by motor coach touring New Albany, Clarksville and Jeffersonville, stopping at various locations such as the Big 4 Bridge, Rose Island and the Port of Indiana. Local experts will speak at each site.
FOCUS on Southern Indiana will highlight Clark and Floyd counties’ education, history, economic development and health care and human services. This action-packed program is a starting point for individuals who want to accept the leadership opportunity of making Southern Indiana a better place in which to live and work.

The New Albany High School Class of 2002 will hold its 10-year reunion Saturday, Sept. 22, at the Calumet Club, 1614 E. Spring St. in New Albany.
The adult-only reunion will be from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. and dinner will be served at 8 p.m. Tickets are $35 until July 13; $40 until Sept. 21; $45 at the door.

The Louisville Zoo and Friends of the Zoo invite the public to participate in a fundraising adventure — the SOS Pledge Walk: Saving Species One Step at a Time.
Walk through the wild side at the Zoo to support and learn about endangered species.
