LOUISVILLE —
A Jeffersonville man that was arrested and charged for attempted murder in April 2009 was charged in Louisville Thursday for a shooting that occurred weeks earlier.
Joshua C. Lawrence, 24, was arrested and charged in Floyd County Superior Court No. 3 on April 22, 2009, but eventually pled guilty to a lesser charge of criminal recklessness — shooting a firearm into a building or gathering place — a class C felony.
He was also charged with burglary resulting in bodily injury, a class A felony.
But weeks before the shooting in New Albany, Lawrence was allegedly involved in a shooting in Louisville.
According to Louisville Metro Police Spokesman Dwight Mitchell, the shooting occurred about 3:30 p.m. March 31, 2009. Lawrence and another man allegedly approached the a man who was sitting on his front porch in the 1400 block of Arcade Avenue in Louisville. He said four or five shots were fired from a small black handgun, one bullet struck the man in the shoulder and another hit him in the neck.
Both men fled the scene in a 1970s model Cadillac and a warrant for attempted murder was issued for Lawrence on April 2, 2009.
According to Floyd County Court records, weeks after the Louisville incident, Lawrence was arrested on the attempted murder charges in New Albany.
Erynn McInnis, spokeswoman for the Floyd County Prosecutor’s office, said Lawrence was sentenced on the New Albany charges in June 2010.
After serving time related to the New Albany incident, Lawrence was released on probation, and according to Floyd County Court records, he was arrested again Jan. 16 for dealing marijuana and maintaining a common nuisance, both D felonies. On April 30, McInnis said Lawrence admitted to the probation violation and was booked into Floyd County jail with a scheduled release date of Tuesday.
Officials with the Floyd County jail said he was released Thursday from Floyd County Jail into the custody of Louisville Metro Corrections to face the charges stemming from the shooting in March 2009.
