> SOUTHERN INDIANA —
Indiana State Police troopers from the Sellersburg post are participating in an 18-day campaign to crack down on drunken drivers on the roadways.
“Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” is part of a statewide effort involving more than 250 law enforcement agencies to target drivers who are driving under the influence, ISP officers reported.
The campaign runs through to Labor Day, September 3, according to an ISP release.
ISP officials reported that troopers are planning on working overtime during the safety program to conduct high-visibility enforcement activities designed specifically to identify impaired drivers. Motorists can expect to see an increased number of patrols looking for aggressive drivers and unrestrained motorists during the effort.
The Indiana State Police remains committed to reducing serious injury and fatality crashes along state highways through aggressive traffic enforcement initiatives such as the current crackdown, officials reported.
In addition to impaired driving, troopers will continue strict enforcement efforts on driving behaviors that are leading factors in crashes including unreasonable speed, driving left of center, disregarding stop signs and automatic signal violations.
Motorists are encouraged to report suspected impaired drivers by calling 911 and providing the suspected vehicle’s description, location and direction of travel. Callers can remain anonymous.
