NEW ALBANY —
A sewer backup has temporarily closed the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library.
Library Director Steve Day said library staff noticed the problem Friday. He said the library was closed all weekend and will continue to be closed until the problem is solved and the building is cleaned and sanitized.
“We don’t know when we will reopen,” he said. “We have to fix the problem first or it will just happen again.”
Day said no books or other materials have been damaged. He said the backup occurred in the maintenance area of the library. He said some carpet was damaged.
Day said he doesn’t know if a tree root is blocking the sewer line or if it is a more extensive problem.
“Right now, we don’t know what caused it,” he said. “We will do everything we can to straighten it out.”
Day said while the library is closed, there will be no overdue fees assessed.
“We will reopen as soon as we possibly can,” he said.
