Open lanes ahead: Traffic returns to normal on Kennedy Bridge

Kennedy Bridge work completed a day early

> SOUTHERN INDIANA — Repairs to the Interstate 65 Kennedy Bridge were completed a day earlier than expected and all lanes of traffic are open on the Ohio River span.

According to an email from Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Spokeswoman Andrea Clifford, crews with New Albany-based MAC Construction and Excavating completed their work on the northbound lanes of the I-65 corridor at about 7:30 p.m. Monday night.

The crews finished work on the southbound portion of the bridge at about midnight, Clifford said in the email. All lanes of I-65 in both directions are now open on the bridge.

Portions of the bridge and its approaches have been closed since late-June to allow for the completion of the $18.2 million redecking of the Kennedy Bridge and to repair its approaches. When the project was announced it was anticipated that lane closure would be in place through the end of July.
