JEFFERSONVILLE —
Clarksville Animal Control confiscated 87 dogs from a house in the Parkwood subdivision and took them to the Jeffersonville shelter this week.
“[Their condition] was not good,” J.B. Ogle Animal Shelter Director Harry Wilder said. “There were a multitude of things that were wrong. They had mange, interbred, some were mean.
“You name the problem, they probably had it.”
Wilder said animal control had received a complaint from a neighbor.
He said about 10 or 12 of the dogs had to be euthanized because the mange was so bad they were bleeding. About 30 more have been given to rescue groups.
The remaining dogs will go through the normal process for dogs taken in at the shelter, he said. After almost half were removed from the shelter, Wilder said the remaining number is manageable.
“We can manage it in our everyday operation. It’ll just be a busy weekend,” he said. “We’ll keep an eye on them. If they don’t show any signs of illness after a few days, we’ll start adopting.”
The identity of the owner was not immediately available.
Animal Control Officer Bradley Cummings was not available Friday to comment. The prosecutor’s office had no information about whether charges would be filed.
