Candidates forum set for this week

South Central Indiana League of Women Voters will be holding a local candidates forum featuring candidates from Clark and Floyd counties at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, at Jeffersonville’s RiverStage.  

Residents are invited to meet their candidates, get to know them and also become familiar with their new League of Women Voters local unit. There will be refreshments and a silent basket auction with baskets donated by Clark and Floyd county candidates.

1si hosting business expo

One Southern Indiana will again host the area’s largest business-to-business expo on Thursday, Oct. 4, at Kye’s, 500 Missouri Ave., Jeffersonville. The event will be held from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. and admission is free to business professionals who present a business card at the registration table.

More than 100 exhibitors and 1,000 attendees will enjoy unlimited opportunities to build business relationships, which is why this year’s expo is appropriately themed “Your Passport to Business Opportunity.” Attendees may visit booths from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., sample food from local caterers and restaurants.

Other event features include a silent auction of media advertising including magazine, billboard, electronic media and newspaper advertising space, along with a variety of gift cards, business supplies and other traditional items from local area businesses. Participants can bid on items until 5 p.m. and winners will be announced at 5:30 p.m. New this year is an Advocacy Networking event from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. which will be a forum for attendees to meet their state, local and regional political candidates.



CHARLESTOWN

Meet ghost hunters at library

The Charlestown Clark County Public Library is sponsoring an evening with the Louisville Ghost Hunter’s Society from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, at the library, 51 Clark Road, Charlestown.

The ghost hunters will talk about some of their most interesting cases as well as offer a hands on look at some of the equipment they use in their investigations.

This program is free and open to the public but registration is strongly recommended. Please call 812-256-3337.

 



NEW ALBANY

NAHS reservation deadline nears

The sixth annual New Albany High School Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, in the school’s cafeteria. Tickets for the luncheon event are $30 each. Reservations, which are due Friday, Oct. 5, can be made and payment sent to: NAHS — Hall of Fame, c/o Jason Flener, 1020 Vincennes St., New Albany, Ind., 47150. Festival volleyball tourney at JR’s

Harvest Homecoming’s first-ever sand volleyball invitational will be Oct. 13-14, at JR’s Pub.

LXC Sports will be hosting a $1,000 grand prize coed tournament. Saturday will be pool play and Sunday a champion will be crowned from a single elimination tournament.

Every team plays both days. Teams must have at least two females. Team fee of $200 includes $1 beers, half-off appetizers and a pitcher of JR's choice.

St. Mary’s yard sale Oct. 19

St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Eighth and Spring streets, New Albany, will host a yard and bake sale, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday and Saturday, Oct. 19 and Oct. 20, in the parish school cafeteria.

The sale will include thousands of items, house wares, furniture, clothing, decorative items, toys, and much more. There will be homemade goodies from some of the best bakers in town. Food for sale include coffee and donuts both days, hot dogs and chili on Saturday.

Library celebrating German month

The New Albany-Floyd County Public Library will host an evening of German American music, fun and food from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today, Oct. 2, in the Strassweg Auditorium. The event will feature accordionist Michael O’Bryan playing German and German American music.

Sample traditional German American food, find information about German American organizations and family history, and make your own Pennsylvania Dutch Hex sign.
