JEFFERSONVILLE —
Clark County Coroner Terry Conway said hypothermia is the preliminary cause of death resulting from an autopsy of a middle-age man found in a field near Holmans Lane on Sunday.
The autopsy was conducted Monday, but Conway said officials are waiting for the results of a subsequent toxicology report before final determination is made.
The man died about 10 to 12 hours before the body was found about 11 a.m., he said.
Conway and officials with the Jeffersonville Police Department said the name of the man was not yet being released until contact is made with one of his relatives, an active-duty service member who is serving overseas. He said some of the family who have been alerted of the death requested the relative be contacted before the man’s name is released to the public.
The American Red Cross is working to locate the service member, Conway said.
Conway said this afternoon that he expects the relief organization to make contact with the relative within the next 24 hours.
