Council to hold workshop
The Jeffersonville City Council will meet for a public workshop at 6 p.m. Monday, June 18 at Jeffersonville City Hall, 500 Quartermaster Court. The public workshop will be held in the mayor’s conference room and precede Monday night’s city council meeting.
NEW ALBANY
Walk to raise money for hairdressers
Hairdressers With Helping Hands, a group that raises money to help hairdressers in crisis, will host a 2-mile walk starting at the farmers’ market in downtown New Albany at 6 p.m. Friday, June 15.
This group is less than a year old but has already helped a few hairdressers including one in Henryville who lost her salon in the March tornado.

Clean sweep set for Saturday
The city of New Albany will host Operation Clean Sweep from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 16.
Dumpsters will be placed at 2113 Grant Line Road, Fourth and Culbertson and the 4-H Fairgrounds and will be available to residents of New Albany (proof of residence is required) to dispose of household debris and yard waste.
Passenger tires may also be disposed of, but there is a limit of four per person. Hazardous materials such as chemicals, electronics and paint will not be accepted.
Aglow meeting is Monday
An Aglow meeting will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. with fellowship from 6:30 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 18, at Covenant Community Fellowship, 727 Rolling Creek Drive, New Albany.
The speaker will be Tess Brunmeier, an ordained Assemblies of God minister who preaches, teaches, leads women’s retreats and counsels the hurting.
Civil War talk at lunch
The Carnegie Center for Art and History, 201 E. Spring St., New Albany, will sponsor Lunch & Learn from noon to 1 p.m., Tuesday, June 19, at the center.
Mark Wetherington, director of The Filson Historical Society, will present the program “Treat Them as Wild Beasts:” Civil War Bandits and Guerillas in the Ohio Valley Region, as part of the Carnegie Center’s summer Lunch & Learn series on the Civil War, in honor of the sesquicentennial of that conflict. Participants can bring a lunch, drinks are provided. This program is free, but registration is required 812-944-7336.
