The traffic pattern on the Clark Memorial Bridge is set to switch Tuesday, Feb. 12, in order for work to begin on the northbound side of the bridge.
Crews have been repairing the steel and sidewalks on the Indiana approach to the Clark Memorial Bridge on the southbound side of the bridge since mid-January.
Workers with Louisville-based Hall Contracting, who is performing the work, will begin changing the pavement striping and moving the barrier walls around 8 a.m. Tuesday. One lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction utilizing the southbound lanes of the bridge. The northbound lanes of the bridge near the Indiana shore will be closed 24-hours-a-day for the next 30 days while crews replace handrails and sidewalks and repair bridge expansion joints.
The speed limit in the work zone is reduced to 25 mph for the duration of the project and it is a double-fine work zone. The contract to Hall Contracting for this project was through the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet in the amount of $1.07 million.
Construction is scheduled for completion by April 15.
The painting of the steel on the Indiana approach will be performed under separate contract this summer. Lane closures on the bridge will not be needed to perform this work, but some sidewalk closures may be necessary.
