Police have apprehended Vincent D. Windell Jr., 22, a suspect who police say was involved in the shooting of two Jeffersonville Police Department officers Thursday night. He was taken into custody without incident by JPD and New Albany Police Department officers in an apartment in the 1000 block of West Main Street in New Albany, said Capt. Keith Whitlow with NAPD.
JPD officers are planning a 1:45 p.m. press conference to release more details.
Police are still searching for Robert Datillo, 37, a suspect in the shooting, which took place at about 7 p.m. Thursday at the Motel 6 along old U.S. 31 in Jeffersonville.
Police say they are questioning a third person who may have been involved in the shooting that has left the officers in serious condition in a Louisville hospital. The person has not been booked into the jail, Clark County Sheriff Danny Rodden said today. The Evening News has been given the person’s name, but were waiting to confirm that with police.
Police — including a SWAT team — are searching an area of south Louisville off the Outer Loop near Jefferson Mall. They located a vehicle which might be connected to the case, newsgathering partner WLKY-TV in Louisville is reporting.
Police believe one of the men shot Cpl. Dan Lawhorn, 39, and Patrolman Keith Broady, 32. The officers are in serious, but stable, condition at University Hospital.
