A former janitor at Salem Middle School has been arrested for viewing child pornography on a school computer.
William Dearborn, 31, of Scottsburg, turned himself in to the Washington County Jail on an arrest warrant Monday evening, according to an Indiana State Police press release. He is charged with class D felony possession of child pornography.
An official at the Washington County school found what he thought might be inappropriate material on one of the school’s computers in November 2008, the press release stated.
New Albany Police Computer Forensics Detective Greg Pennell examined the computer’s history and determined it contained child pornography. Detective Scott Stewart, of ISP, determined the dates and times the porn was being accessed. The investigation led to Dearborn, who was working evening hours at the school as a janitor.
Police do not believe children were ever able to view the child pornography, and none of the images police found are believed to be of local children.
Dearborn faces six months to three years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine if convicted.
