Church hosting ice cream social

Bethany Christian Church, 9007 Ind. 62, Charlestown, will sponsor an ice cream, pie and cake social, along with a quilt show from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, at the church.

The menu will be hamburgers or hot dogs, baked beans, slaw, potato salad and chips, with ice cream, cake or pie. Coffee, tea and orange drink also available. Price: adults: $8 per person. Children 5 and younger, $4.

Auction of pies and cakes starting at 6:30 p.m. Donations accepted to benefit the Capital Fund.



JEFFERSONVILLE

Gilt Edge hosting family event

Gilt Edge Baptist Church, 1713 Green St., Jeffersonville, will host a friends and family event at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.

There will be a health fair, rides, games, giveaways and food. Call 812-282-2551 for more information.



Walking tour set for Friday

A Downtown Jeffersonville walking tour will begin rain or shine at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24. Those interested should meet at the parking lot adjacent to Nachand Fieldhouse, 601 E. Court Ave., Jeffersonville, for a tour of lower Meigs Avenue, south of Court Avenue.

Clark County Historian Jeanne Burke will lead the tour, sharing anecdotes about the neighborhood’s rich history and architectural and historical information about the buildings. The tour will conclude in time for participants to return to Warder Park to enjoy a Concert in the Park at 7:30 with June Kelley Roy and the Ovation Orchestra, playing big band swing.

The remaining walking tours are tentatively planned for Sept. 28 and Oct. 26.

Reunite with St. Mary’s students

St. Mary’s School, New Albany, class of 1964, will hold a reunion at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, at Golden Corral, 1402 Cedar St., Clarksville.

Beck’s Mill celebrating 204th year

Beck’s Mill, the historic grist mill 6 1/2 miles south of Salem, is observing its 204th year of operation at the same site.

A celebration is planned Saturday, Aug. 25, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The normal adult admission charge is being reduced to $2.04 for that day. Children younger than 16 are admitted free with a paid adult admission and there will be many special events that day.

The present mill was constructed in 1864. The building and equipment were restored two years ago, making it fully operational. For more information, call the mill, 812-883-5147.



NEW ALBANY

FMH to host Baby Fair

Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services annual Baby Fair will be from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Aug. 25, at the hospital’s Paris Education Center.

The Baby Fair will feature door prizes, interactive booths with the latest baby gear, resources and information as well as tours of the hospital’s expanded and renovated birthing center.

Parents can also watch demonstrations of 4-D ultrasound capabilities, infant and pregnancy massage and meet delivering physicians and pediatricians.

Community Women open house set for Aug. 25

The Community Women for Unity and Equality and the New Albany Housing Authority, will host a rededication and open house at the William O. Vance Center, 1129 Dennison Ave., New Albany, from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Aug. 25.

There will be the dedication of a plaque in the honor of Addrine Phillips, whom worked at the center for more than 25 years, encouraging every youth that passed through the doors to be all they could be.

SELLERSBURG

Festival luncheon features speaker

Sellersburg Celebrates! Community Luncheon will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24, at Rock Creek Community Academy, 11515 U.S. 31, Sellersburg.

The guest speaker will be Stephanie Decker. She lost her home and belongings in the March 2 tornadoes. She also lost part of both of her legs, but what she gained in this experience is a will to help others. She has started her own foundation to help kids with prosthetics and others who have lost limbs to gain access to leading edge prosthetics.
