NEW ALBANY —
A New Albany man charged with the 1990 murder of his wife will be held in the Floyd County Jail without bond.
Christopher A. Baxter, 54, appeared in Floyd County Superior Court No. 3 Friday for an initial hearing. An automatic not-guilty plea was entered.
Baxter was arrested Thursday afternoon at his apartment in the 1600 block of Slate Run Road. The body of Robin Lynn Baxter, 32, was found in the Ohio River in June 1990, and an autopsy revealed she died from blunt-force trauma to the head.
While her husband was always a suspect, police did not have enough evidence to charge him until this week when an informant at a local jail claimed Baxter admitting to him at a party that he killed his wife.
Baxter faces 45 to 65 years in prison if convicted.
