IUS welcomes mayoral hopefuls
The Indiana University Southeast College Democrats will sponsor a debate of the Democratic candidates for Jeffersonville mayor from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday. The event will be held in Hoosier Room East on the IUS campus, 4201 Grant Line Road, New Albany.
The group will also sponsor a debate among the Democratic candidates for mayor of New Albany from 7 to 8:30 p.m. April 15 in University Center, Room 127; and a forum for New Albany City Council candidates from 7 to 8:30 p.m. April 22 in the Recital Hall in the Ogle Center.

Charity dinner and dance coming up
Friends of the LaDuke family of Floyd County are organizing a dinner, dance and auction at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Joe Huber’s Barnyard Bash, Starlight, to raise funds to cover Dora LaDuke’s second bone-marrow transplant and related costs not covered by medical insurance.
LaDuke, a registered nurse, was diagnosed with Leukemia AML 11 years ago and received a bone marrow transplant. She recently relapsed and is in Seattle for a second transplant.
Organizers are collecting auction items as well as selling tickets to the event, which features music by The Marlins for the dance and dinner. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door per person.

Moore hosting open house
Jeffersonville Republican mayoral candidate Mike Moore will have an open house at his campaign headquarters, 2218 E. 10th St., from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Visitors can meet Moore one on one and are welcome to ask questions and share their ideas during the event. Yard signs and t-shirts are also available at the location.

Craft sale is Saturday
First Christian Church, 3209 Middle Road, Jeffersonville, will sponsor an indoor quilting and craft supplies sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the church. Proceeds will help fund a youth mission trip.
Supplies are being sold at yard sale prices. Items include yarn, needlepoint kits, cross stitch kits, quilting material, craft supplies, patterns, needles and thread.
Bliss House seeks hats
The Center for Lay Ministries and the Bliss House Committee are seeking donations of new or very gently used Derby or Easter hats for the upcoming April 17, fundraiser auction, fashion show and luncheon at 1 p.m. April 17 at 300 Spring, 300 Spring St., Jeffersonville.

Library offers books for awareness
The New Albany-Floyd County Library will host a display of books for people who want to learn more about Parkinson’s disease beginning Monday at the library, 180 W. Spring St., New Albany.
The display will also include a proclamation by New Albany Mayor England declaring April Parkinson’s Awareness Month. Resources for the Parkinson’s Support Center of Kentuckiana also will be available at the display.

The menu consists of all-you-can-eat chili, hot dogs, dessert and drinks. The price is $6 for adults and $4 for children ages 3 to 12.
Proceeds will benefit Relay for Life.
