Vendors Village to host grand opening

Vendors Village, 1710 E. 10th Street in Jeffersonville, will host a grand opening starting at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1. The location a wide variety of products, from jams to antiques from area vendors. The store will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Church hosting family event

Southeast Christian Church invites the community to be a part of Family Palooza from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Sept. 3, at the Southern Indiana Campus, 1309 Charlestown-New Albany Road, Jeffersonville.



Wine tasting is Thursday

The River Breeze Wine Tasting event will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, on RiverStage, at Spring Street and Riverside Drive in Jeffersonville. Proceeds will benefit City Pride, Jeffersonville’s Beautification Program.

The Trolley will pick up and drop off riders for free between 5 and 10 p.m. The route will be Riverside Drive to the Sheraton Hotel and Market Street to Spring Street. Signs will be posted along the route and the trolley will be decorated with River Breeze signs.

NEW ALBANY

First Tuesday set for next week

Develop New Albany’s monthly First Tuesday event will be held at Bush-Keller Sporting Goods, 340 Vincennes St., from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The new owners of the store, Doug and Debbie Conway, will be on hand to introduce their staff and to talk about their updated retail selection.

As has been a focus of First Tuesday events this year, a nonprofit will be featured next week, and it will be Division Street School.

With fall approaching and football starting, Tuesday’s event will feature a tailgating theme. Admission to the event is free, and tailgating snacks will be provided.

Event for kids, parents on tap

Slate Run Elementary School, 1452 Slate Run Road, New Albany, is sponsoring a free community event, “We Love Our Kids,” from noon to 3:30 p.m. Sept. 15 at the school.

For adults, free vision checks and free blood pressure checks will be provided. Adults will also be invited to sign up for afterschool homework helpers and Community Garden helpers.

Entertainment for the kids will include Wii games stations, fire engine, humvees, painting, reading, jump rope and free popcorn and frozen yogurt.



Job Club speaker series begins Sept. 11

The New Albany-Floyd County Public Library is reviving its Job Club with a speaker series related to job searching and careers.

All events are on the second Tuesday at 2 p.m. [unless otherwise noted] in the small meeting room on the lower level. The first presentation will be on Sept. 11, and will be entitled “Overcoming Extreme Obstacles to Gainful Employment.”

Chris Locke of Goodwill Southern Indiana and Sally Williar of Job Corps will be the speakers. Learn how to overcome obstacles to obtain the job you need.

Event to educate on church

The public can learn more about the fundamental doctrines of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. As part of an ongoing series, Elder Rulon Munns, a Latter Day Saint Church authority, will be discussing the church’s views on the Godhead and the nature of Deity.

This event is open to members of the community and will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Sept. 13 at the church at 1534 Slate Run Road, New Albany.

Clarksville class of ’62 to reunite

The Clarksville High School Class of 1962 will be having a 50-year reunion Sept. 14-15.

National Quartet convention on the way

Southern Gospel Music fans, representing at least 40 states and more than a half dozen foreign countries will converge on the city of Louisville, for the 55th Annual National Quartet Convention Sept. 9-15.

This year, many of the most popular names in Southern Gospel Music will be featured throughout the seven-day event, including artists like The Gaither Vocal Band, The Hoppers, The Kingdom Heirs, Gold City, Greater Vision, The Booth Brothers, Legacy Five, Triumphant Quartet, The Isaacs and many others.
