JEFFERSONVILLE —
For the eighth time, Jeffersonville residents will have the chance to taste a variety of local wines and beautify the community at the same time.
Jeffersonville City Pride will host its eight annual Riverbreeze event from 6 to 9 p.m. today, Sept. 6, on the city’s RiverStage.
Riverbreeze, a wine tasting, serves as the city’s beautification committee fundraiser for the year.
“The better turnout we get the more we are able to take care of things,” said Pat Elder, a member of City Pride and an organizer for the event. “We have a lot going on with City Pride. We have a lot of areas that need to be addressed.”
Among the projects City Pride plans to complete this year is landscaping at the new American Legion building along Eighth Street, landscaping around the entrance signs to the city at interstate ramps and planters located throughout the city.
Elder said City Pride will begin its fall plantings near the end of September.
A big turnout is expected for today’s event as Elder said that she anticipates more than 200 will attend the wine tasting. The event over time has outgrown the Glossbrenner Public Garden in historic Jeffersonville and has transitioned to the RiverStage on the banks of Jeffersonville.
“It’s just a really nice venue,” Elder said.
Six wineries will be providing wines to taste including Monarch, National Beverages, Huber Winery, Chateau de Pique, Turtle Run Winery and Indian Creek Winery.
“There is a large variety of reds and whites,” Elder said. “There should be something for everybody.”
In addition to the wines, Adrienne and Co. Bakery and Cafe will be catering hors d’oeuvres and Sancho Miguel’s Salsa will also be providing food. A jazz group will also be performing during the event.
Jeffersonville Trolleys will be running for the event from 5 to 10 p.m.; tickets can be purchased in advance for $25 at Choices on Spring Street in Jeffersonville or by calling 812-282-1184; tickets are $30 at the door, which includes a commemorative glass for the wine tasting.
