‘Monster Mash’ set for tonight

The New Albany-Floyd County Public Library and the New Albany YMCA are partnering to host a Halloween Monster Mash for tweens and teens. The event will be from 8 to 11 p.m., today, 19, at the New Albany YMCA. There will be a costume contest with prizes for Best Costume Based on a Book, Scariest Costume, Funniest Costume, Most Creative Costume, Best Group Costume, and Crowd Favorite. There will also be games, music, and arts and crafts activities.

Tweens and teens are asked to bring a canned or boxed good as a “treat” for HOPE Southern Indiana’s food bank. For more information, call the Reference Services Desk at 812-949-3523.



Celebrate survivors next week

Relay for Life of Floyd County will sponsor the fourth-annual survivor birthday party from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 2796 Charlestown Road, New Albany.

Everyone is invited to this party — survivors, caregivers, friends and family. A dinner of salad, pasta and bread will be prepared and served by Trinity’s Boy Scout Troop.

CLARKSVILLE

Bilingual story hour on tap

A bilingual story hour will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 27 at the Clarksville Branch Library, 1312 Eastern Blvd., Clarksville.

Families are invited to participate in this bilingual story hour. Students from the Jeffersonville High School’s ESL program will be reading the stories. This story hour is meant to reinforce prereading skill concepts to young children. Registration is required. Call 812-285-5640 for more details or to register.

Dental office to buy candy for troops

Kirchner Dental, 1706 Williamsburg Drive, Jeffersonville, will hold its second-annual Halloween candy buy-back from noon to 5 p.m. Nov. 1

Halloween candy will be purchased from local children for $1 per pound (up to five pounds per child). The candy will then be sent to Operation Gratitude to be used in care packages for U.S. troops serving overseas.

Children are encouraged to bring letters to troops thanking them for their service. In addition to cash, children selling their Halloween treats will receive coupons for free kid’s meals at local restaurants.

Candy should be unopened and children must be accompanied by an adult.

Bethel AME hosting Oktoberfest

Bethel AME Church, 200 West Park Place, Jeffersonville, is sponsoring Oktoberfest from 4 to 7 p.m. Oct. 27 at the church.

The day will include corn hole, a fish pond and pumpkin decorating contest, along with a cake walk and prizes.

A chili supper will include a peanut butter and jelly sandwich or a grilled cheese sandwich. Hot dogs and drinks will also be available, all for less than $5.
