The body of missing Lexington, Ind., woman Nina Keown was found in New Washington on Friday after her ex-husband admitted killing her and dumping her body, Clark County Sheriff Danny Rodden said.
Robert “Bobby” Petty, 32, has been a person of interest in his ex-wife’s disappearance as he was believed to be the last person to see her following an argument the two had at a music festival Aug. 7.
Petty had been in the Clark County Jail since his arrest Saturday on a probation violation relating to a theft conviction. He allegedly violated the terms of his probation by being arrested for domestic battery against Keown on April 11.
“He’s been in our jail. We’ve had him pretty much in solitary confinement, and he came to want to talk about it,” Rodden said. “Our detectives talked to him [Thursday] and got him to admit to doing it and where we could find the body.”
Petty took police officer to the general area where he admitted dumping her body off of New Washington-Bethlehem Road. Police began searching the area Thursday evening and continued the search Friday.
Rodden said a firefighter walking the area found the body.
Rodden said Petty told officers “they were both drugged up” when they got into an argument that led to the woman’s death.
The case will be prosecuted in Scott County, Rodden said.
