JEFFERSONVILLE —
A Greater Clark principal and administrator are running for the same school board seat in Jefferson County Public Schools in Louisville.
According to the Jefferson County Clerk’s Office website, Martin Bell, Greater Clark chief operating officer and James Sexton, principal of Jeffersonville High School, are running for JCPS’s seventh district seat.
Bell, who officially leaves the district Sept. 28, didn’t return phone calls Thursday.
He said he submitted his intent to retire from Greater Clark County Schools in an earlier interview. Bell previously served as the deputy superintendent of JCPS.
Sexton said he thinks Bell is a good candidate for the seat.
“His education experience is very positive as well as mine, so the voters will have lots of good choices,” Sexton said.
He said he worked with Bell while they were both working for the district and Bell’s daughters graduated while he was principal at Eastern High School in Louisville.
Sexton said Bell’s work in both districts has proven him to be a good educator.
“If I were not running, I would vote for him,” Sexton said. “But since I am, I won’t.”
Two other candidates have also filed for the seat, Christopher Fell and Chris Brady.
