State DNR still looking for workers for program

Job includes housing, stipend; O’Bannon Woods is participating

INDIANAPOLIS — The state continues to seek workers for a new state parks program that offers housing and a stipend to those who participate.

The Department of Natural Resources’ Division of State Parks & Reservoirs has received federal grant funding for the program, which is called the Indiana Heritage Corps.

The DNR wants to find 23 people before Jan. 1 to begin service in late January 2012.

Those accepted into the program will receive on-site housing, a living allowance of $335 per month, an education stipend (up to $2,750) and hands-on experience. Participants can earn college internship credit and live at a state park.

Participating state parks include Pokagon in Angola, Fort Harrison in Indianapolis, Brown County in Nashville, and O’Bannon Woods in Corydon. Indiana Heritage Corps members will clean, restore and construct 20 cumulative miles of trail in the four parks.

IHC candidates should be at least 17 years of age, be able to pass a strict FBI background check, and be able to make an eight-month commitment to the program, which will last through Aug. 17.

Interested qualified candidates should email a resume and cover letter to indianaheritagecorps@dnr.IN.gov.
