LOUISVILLE —
Two Jeffersonville residents were arrested for leaving their child locked in a hot car while they went into a Louisville strip club.
Thomas W. Lee, 28, and Laura Diprimo, 43, were charged with first degree wanton endangerment after they allegedly left their 1-year-old child in a car while they went into Deja Vu Showgirls — a strip club off of Taylor Boulevard — Tuesday night.
According to Louisville Metro Police Department spokesman Dwight Mitchell, a call was made to authorities that there was a child in a car, in the parking lot outside the bar.
When officers arrived they found a black Chevy Impala with a young child in the back seat crying and soaked in sweat, according to the police report. Shortly after police arrived Diprimo ran out of the club, started the car and rolled down the rear window, according to the report.
Lee followed her out of the club and was reportedly wearing an ankle monitoring bracelet related to charges in Clark County.
Officials with Clark County’s probation office said the monitoring bracelet was part of a sentence relating to Lee pleading guilty to charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated dating back to 2010.
The case originally included charges of criminal recklessness, operating a vehicle while intoxicated and neglect of a dependent.
While the Clark County court records list Lee as having a Jeffersonville address, the Louisville Metro Police Department listed him as having a Louisville address in the police report.
Diprimo also had previous charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and neglect of a dependent related to charges filed May 6, according to Clark County Court documents.
Because the dependent was a minor, the probation department would not confirm if the same child was the one present during both incidents.
The Louisville Metro Police Department’s report cited the National Weather Service heat index was 91 degrees when the child was discovered in the car. Witnesses said the child was in the car alone for 10 to 15 minutes.
Diprimo and Lee both said they had been drinking, according to the report.
Both were arrested and booked into Louisville Metro Corrections and the child was released to the care of a relative, Mitchell said.
Police said Lee complained the back seat of the cruiser was hot as he was transported to jail.
