Hosparus Southern Indiana needs volunteers

Hosparus Southern Indiana needs volunteers who live in Clark, Crawford, Floyd, Harrison, Scott and Washington counties.

Hosparus will offer free volunteer training, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 1, at its New Albany office, 624 E. Market St. Lunch will be provided.

Volunteers help with patient and family support, administrative duties and development/fundraising. Hosparus carefully selects volunteers and provides them with comprehensive training specially designed to meet the needs of patients and families. Hosparus volunteers must have available transportation and complete training and an application process.



NEW ALBANY

Farmers Market sets winter hours

The New Albany Winter Farmers Market will be held every Saturday through Dec. 15 from 10 a.m. to noon. It is located between Third and Fourth streets on Market Street.

FLOYD COUNTY

Historical Society to meet

The Floyd County Historical Society will have its next meeting at 7 p.m. Nov. 27 in the Elsa Strassweg Auditorium of the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library.

The program entitled “The Scribner House: New Albany’s Home Place” will be presented by Anne Caudill, Mandy Dick, Pam Peters and Carlene Price, the authors of the most recent book on the Scribner House.

The book will also be available for purchase at the meeting. This is an official New Albany Bicentennial event and is free and open to the public.



FLOYDS KNOBS

Students invited to Activity Fair

Parents of current eight-graders who will have a freshman next year at Floyd Central High School are invited to attend the annual Activity Fair from 4:15 to 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, at the school.

There will be tables set up in the main hallway of the building that highlight extracurricular activities. Incoming students are encouraged to come and walk around and ask questions to teachers and other students. Following the activity fair, there will be an important parent meeting at 6:30 p.m. in the Floyd Central auditorium.



JEFFERSONVILLE

Shop and Adopt on Saturday

Sophie’s Hope Thrift Shoppe, 2808 E. 10th St., Jeffersonville, is sponsoring Shop and Adopt Day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, at the thrift store.

The day will feature chili, pies and cookies, Christmas sweets, a silent auction and giveaways. Vendors can reserve a space for $10. For more information, call 812-786-9324.



Churches gathering for memorial

Believing there is a need for the church community to offer a response to the murders that occur from time to time in our city, No Life Forgotten — a ministry of Jeffersonville’s downtown churches — gathers at the sites of these tragedies. At 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 25, No Life Forgotten participants will join in a quiet gathering at the French Quarter Apartments on Middle Road to mark the death of Paris Hamilton

The downtown churches of Jeffersonville invite the presence of all who wish to bear witness to compassion, caring, and an end to violence. Those not able to attend are encouraged to join us in prayer for an end to the senseless violence that infects our society.
