SELLERSBURG —
In 9-10 softball action, New Albany and Silver Creek coasted into the finals of the District V Little League Tournament at Silver Creek Township Community Park on Saturday.
Once again, Silver Creek relied on stellar pitching to get the semifinal victory over Scott County, 13-0, courtesy of a no hitter by Lexi McAfee.
McAfee allowed just one Scott County batter to reach base on a walk. She retired 11 of the 13 batters she faced via strikeout.
The Silver Creek squad shortened the game with a steady output of runs in each of the first three innings. Silver Creek scored three runs in the first, five in the second and five in the third to force the 10-run rule.
Abby Whitlock was 1-for-1 with two walks and three runs scored, and Lexi Garloch was 3-for-3 with three runs scored for Silver Creek. McAfee helped her own cause with a double.
Silver Creek will face New Albany, which thumped Jeff/GRC 18-2. New Albany needed just eight hits, capitalizing on errors and walks to get the win.
Brookie Rainer and Camri Thomas each scored three runs for the New Albany squad. Thomas was 2-for-2 with a double and reached on an error, and Rainer was 1-for-1, reaching base twice on errors. Brianna Schoenfeld also reached base three times, going 2-for-2, a walk and two runs scored.
